How to Handle Returns With a Clear Process

A return process should answer three questions: what was sold, what came back, and how the balance changed.

Returns touch customers, inventory, and payments at the same time. A quick refund without checking the item and original transaction can leave stock or the cash drawer wrong.

Find the original sale

Search by receipt, transaction reference, customer, or device identifier. Confirm the item, date, and payment method against your store policy. For a serialized device, compare the physical IMEI or serial number with the sold unit before accepting it.

Record the item's condition

Decide whether the returned item can be sold again, needs service, or should be held aside. Do not add it to available stock until that decision is made. Write a short reason for the return so patterns become visible.

Reconcile the money

Record whether the customer received a refund, exchange, or credit through the available transaction workflow. Check the day's payment totals afterward. ElectroX brings sales, stock, and customer history into the same workspace, giving staff a better starting point for a consistent return policy.
