How to Investigate a Cash Drawer Shortage
Trace the difference while the shift is fresh and preserve the original count.

A short drawer is a signal to inspect the day's activity, not an invitation to change a sale until the totals match. Work from recorded evidence and speak with staff privately.
## Recount together
Count notes and coins by denomination with a second person. Compare the result with opening float plus cash sales minus cash refunds and withdrawals.
## Inspect likely causes
Review cash and digital payment methods, change given, voids, and duplicate refunds. Look for a sale posted as cash when the customer actually paid by QR.
## Document the outcome
Record the variance, the explanation if found, and who reviewed it. If the cause is still unknown, carry it as an open issue for the manager.
ElectroX transaction and payment records can narrow the search; a repeat variance calls for process training rather than silent adjustments.
