Managing Product Variants: Model, Storage, and Color
A phone in three colors and two storage sizes is six products for stock purposes. Structure variants so counts stay meaningful.
By ElectroX Team
Customers ask for a specific model, capacity, and color. If your system records only the model, you cannot tell whether the blue 256 GB unit is available without walking to the shelf.
Decide what makes a separate product
Anything that changes price or that a customer would refuse to substitute should be its own product: storage size, color, and regional version are common examples. Small accessories that differ only in packaging can usually share a record.
Use a predictable name
Build names in the same order every time, such as brand, model, storage, then color. Staff can then search by any part of the name and recognize the result. Avoid abbreviations that only one person understands.
Review variants that do not sell
Some colors or capacities sit on the shelf long after the rest have sold. A sales report by product shows which variations to reorder and which to stop buying. ElectroX lets you organize each variation under its brand and category so these reports stay readable.
