Practical Ways to Reduce Shrinkage in an Electronics Store

Small, valuable items disappear easily. Simple controls on display, access, and records reduce losses without slowing sales.

Shrinkage is the gap between the stock you should have and the stock you can find. In an electronics store, the items most at risk are small and valuable: earbuds, memory cards, chargers, and phones on display.

Control what is on display

Keep display units secured or use dummy units where practical. Store high value stock behind the counter or in a locked cabinet, and limit who holds the key. A tidy display also makes a missing item obvious sooner.

Make every movement a record

Shrinkage is not always theft. Unrecorded returns, items given to a technician, and sales entered under the wrong product all look like losses. Ask staff to record each movement when it happens, not at the end of the day.

Count the risky items often

Run a short count of the most valuable products every week. Investigate differences while staff still remember the week. ElectroX tracks individual devices by IMEI and serial number, which makes it easier to tell exactly which unit is missing.
