IMEI Tracking for Device Retailers: A Practical Starting Guide
Serial level records help a device retailer identify the exact unit received, sold, or returned.

Two phones with the same model and color may look identical on a shelf, but they are different units when a customer returns one. An IMEI or serial record gives the team a precise way to find the right device and its history.
Capture identifiers on arrival
Check the identifier on the device and packaging before accepting stock. Record both IMEI numbers when a dual SIM phone has them, plus any serial number you use internally. Resolve duplicate or mistyped identifiers immediately rather than leaving them for checkout.
Match the exact unit at checkout
Train cashiers to select or scan the physical unit being handed over. A sale linked to the wrong identifier creates problems for returns, warranty questions, and stock checks. Keep the identifier on the receipt or in the transaction record according to your store policy.
Review exceptions
Investigate units marked available that cannot be found, and units on the shelf marked sold. ElectroX supports product level IMEI requirements and records IMEI1, IMEI2, serial number, and availability status. The process works best when every physical movement has a matching entry.
